Most of these dog-friendly hotels in Madrid are well located, in the central area of the city and usually have very good reviews in important portals such as Booking or Tripadvisor. In addition, contrary to what you may think, there are very cheap hotels and accommodation in Madrid that allow pets. These establishments are the perfect options if you want to make a weekend getaway to the capital.

If your goal is cultural tourism, you should know that there are some museums that do not allow dogs. In this case you should make sure that the hotel has a dog day-care service and leave your dog there while you visit the museums.

We also recommend that you try to choose a hotel where there is a park nearby. Even if the park is not a dog park, they always have a certain timetable where you can walk your dog. Normally these hours are until 10am and in the evening from 8pm onwards.

What to visit in Madrid with my pet

As you already know, Madrid is a very interesting city for sightseeing with numerous historical monuments such as the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, Puerta de Alcalá, the Retiro or impressive museums such as the Prado or the Reina Sofía Museum. The problem arises when pets are not allowed. For this reason, we indicated above that it would be necessary for the hotel to have a nursery or a place to leave your pet.

However, going with your pet is not usually a problem, in Madrid there are many other things you can do with your dog. You can visit outdoor monuments such as the Retiro, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol, where you will find the Kilometre Zero of the roads of Spain and the Bear and the Strawberry Tree. You will have no problem taking a stroll along Madrid's Gran Vía accompanied by your dog. And of course, take a stroll through the historic centre of Madrid.

In addition, there are numerous dog friendly places or museums such as the New Galery art gallery or cafes like Federal Café, bookshops like La Fugitiva or Casa del Libro, restaurants like El Perro y la Galleta, and most of the Inditex shops also allow pets. Or in different markets such as the famous Mercado de San Antón.

Regarding transport, the Madrid Metro allows pets of any size as long as they are muzzled and on a leash no longer than 50cm. You should know that it is forbidden to take pets on board during the busiest times of the day: Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 9.30am, from 2pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 8pm. During the other hours you can take your pet on board free of charge. However, pets are not allowed on the bus unless they are small and in a carrier.

How to travel?
