The historic centre of Granada and the famous Albaicín neighbourhood are perfect for a walk with our dog. In the centre of the Nazarí city is the Cathedral with its Royal Chapel where the remains of the Catholic Monarchs and their daughter, Juana la Loca, are kept. In addition to the Royal Chapel, inside it houses several sacristies and an impressive organ. The problem with the Chapel and the cathedral is that pets are not allowed.

The Alhambra, an obligatory visit

The Alhambra, an obligatory visit

The Alhambra of Granada is located on the Red Hill whose location and adaptation is totally integrated into the nature of the area. It consists of a complex of palaces, churches and gardens. All of this is surrounded by a fortress that served as protection against attacks. The uniqueness of this marvel lies in the interiors of the famous Nasrid palaces, where its decoration is one of the greatest exponents of Andalusian art.

Francisco de Icaza said of the Alhambra and Granada:

"Give him alms, woman, there is nothing in life like the pain of being blind in Granada".

Not allowed to visit the Alhambra with dog

The only problem you will face is that you are not allowed to visit the Alhambra with your dog. In this case you will have to leave your dog in the care of a dog sitter, or check if the hotel where you are staying has a dog day-care service. Although everything will depend on your pet if it is used to staying in dog friendly hotels in Spain and if it is not a problem for it to stay a few hours in the hotel room, you can choose to leave your four-legged friend for the duration of the visit.

Some hotels in Granada that allow dogs always provide beds, bowls and accessories to make your pet as comfortable as possible. And they can even provide larger rooms so that your dog is more comfortable.

What to do in Granada with a dog?

Little by little Granada is becoming a very pet friendly city. Its streets have a youthful atmosphere and many places with a lot of personality. As we said before, a walk through the Albaicín is a must if you visit the Caliphate City. This neighbourhood has been a World Heritage Site according to UNESCO since 1994 and it is no wonder, from its alleys there are numerous viewpoints, such as the San Cristóbal, where you can see the architectural ensemble of the Alhambra.

If you want a place where you can let your dog run around without being tied up, the Tico Medina Park is one of the best options as it has a training area. But above all, what we recommend to do with a dog in Granada is to stroll through its streets and have a drink in its many terraces. Among the most famous bars to go for a drink are Biggie's, La Taberna de Kafka and if you want to have a snack or breakfast the best place is Café Baraka.

Last but not least, pets are not allowed on public transport in Granada. However, it is not a very big city and if your pet-friendly hotel is located in a good area, it is possible to walk everywhere.
